How to Identify the Right Kohler Carburetor

If there comes a time that you need to correctly identify a main part on the Kohler engine, the Kohler carburetor for instance, it will be most beneficial if you know the best method for identifying these fuel system components. Kohler made four types of carburetors for their K-series single cylinder 10hp through 18hp engines and KT-series opposed twin cylinder engines. We will look at the top three and purposely leave out the one that is no longer mass-produced.

The first carburetor is a number “26″ and is seen still today on the 10hp (model K241), 12hp (model K301) and small opposed flathead twin cylinder engines. This carburetor has a 26-millimeter or 1.07″ diameter throttle bore and a .812″ in diameter venturi measurement.

The number “28″ carburetor from Kohler is a rare one but one that is used on the 14hp (model K321) and on some 16hp (model K341) engines. With a 28-millimeter or 1.17″ diameter throttle bore and a venturi measuring .937″ in diameter, this carburetor is a sturdy, reliable fuel combustion center.

The third is a number “30″, which, by the way, is also used on the 14hp, 16hp, 18hp OHV (model K361) and larger opposed flathead, twin-cylinder Kohler engines.

The numbers on the carburetor-mounting flange refers to Kohler specific part numbers. Please refer to the manual, which came with your engine, for definite and correct carburetor identification. The size number can be found embossed inside the carburetor and can be seen by looking inside the upper part of the choke end, just above the venturi.
